When the economy sags, money is tight and goods seem more expensive. As a result, a movie on how to control your urge to buy things might be good value for an increasing number of credit card abusers. This week I'm reviewing the recent chick flick---Confessions of a Shopaholic. ¹ëksÆãenpf.chinabroadcast.cnûµ“ôÔwU™÷5

Rebecca Bloomwood lives in New York and is a typical shopping addict. However, she lands a job at a financial magazine as a columnist who tells people how to purchase and use their credit cards wisely. Ironically, Rebecca herself is under a mountain of debt as she continues shopping wildly. ¹ëksÆãenpf.chinabroadcast.cnûµ“ôÔwU™÷5

As Rebecca's articles win more and more acclaim and readers, a debt collector reveals the truth during a live TV interview. Subsequently, bad fortune haunts this shopaholic and forces her to ponder if it is shopping that brings real happiness to her life. ¹ëksÆãenpf.chinabroadcast.cnûµ“ôÔwU™÷5

Obviously, this movie has come out at the right time. As the economic slump hasn't yet bottomed out, Confessions of a Shopaholic does have a moral and presents it in a comedic way. ¹ëksÆãenpf.chinabroadcast.cnûµ“ôÔwU™÷5

In this movie, people can easily see shades of 'The Devil Wears Prada' since the two films chose working for a magazine as their common setting and both delve into similar questions, such as if people should give priority to fame and money when they are on their way to love and truth. ¹ëksÆãenpf.chinabroadcast.cnûµ“ôÔwU™÷5

Compared to "The devil wears Prada", "Confessions of a Shopaholic" refuses to go deeper into these topics. Although the movie's plot is cheesy and predictable and it's easy to pick holes in it, I will not give it a hard time since such a storyline is enough for a light-hearted romantic comedy. As many people overdraw their bank accounts and suffer losses in the current credit crunch, this film may just be the tonic many moviegoers need. ¹ëksÆãenpf.chinabroadcast.cnûµ“ôÔwU™÷5

On my movie scale between 1 and 10, I'll give it a 6. |
